Meet Terry Notary

This is not just motion data. It is a performance by Terry Notary, one of Hollywood’s most recognized performance-capture actors and movement specialists.

Terry has helped bring characters and creatures to life in major productions, including:

  • Avatar

  • Planet of the Apes

  • Kong: Skull Island

  • The Hobbit

  • Warcraft

  • The Lion King

  • Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame

Now Terry’s Xsens motion capture performance becomes the foundation for your own animated CGI scene. What you build around it is completely up to you.

2. Follow Xsens for updates

Follow Xsens on our social media channels to stay updated on contest news, jury updates, submission reminders, inspiration, and winner announcements.

Use the contest hashtag when sharing your progress or final entry: #XsensAnimationContest2026

Sharing with the hashtag is a great way to get your work seen, but it is not your entry. Only the submission form counts.

3. Create your animated CGI scene

Once you download Terry Notary’s motion data, use his performance as the foundation for your own character, environment, story, and visual style. You can use the 3D package, animation tools, rendering workflow, or real-time pipeline of your choice.

The scene has to be your own animation work. Any 3D package, renderer or real-time pipeline is fine, but if generative AI produces the animation, characters or footage for you, we don't accept it.

4. Submit your final video

Submit your finished scene through the official submission form on this page before 10 December 2026, 23:59 GMT. .

You don't upload a file, you share a link, so the size of your render is never a problem. Publish on YouTube, Vimeo or Instagram, or use a file-sharing link from Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive.

Your entry must be a moving CGI scene, not a still image, and it will be reviewed by the contest jury. Keep your link accessible until judging is complete. We'll confirm every submission by email.

Contest sponsors

The third, fourth and fifth prize is a creative technology package put together with our sponsors. Each one covers a different part of the pipeline you'll be working in: dressing your character, rendering your final scene, and moving the camera through it. Here's who they are.

METATAILOR
METATAILOR is 3D clothing software that dresses digital characters by automatically fitting, layering and skin-weighting garments. It reduces the manual work normally needed to prepare clothing for animated characters. For the contest that means less of your time goes into preparing your character's wardrobe, and more of it into the scene you're building around the performance.

Fox Renderfarm
Fox Renderfarm is a trusted cloud rendering service that has helped creative studios bring their visions to life since 2011. Known for reliable performance, responsive support, and competitive pricing, it draws on a team with over 20 years of experience. Serving clients in over 100 countries, Fox Renderfarm also upholds the highest security standards as a TPN Trusted Partner with MPA compliance.

Black Eye Technologies
Black Eye Technologies builds a procedural camera plug-in for Unreal Engine, used for cinematics, previsualisation and on motion capture stages. It frames and follows characters in real time, so camera work can be shaped while the performance is playing rather than keyframed afterwards.
