Hybrid tracking combining inertial motion capture and 6DoF positional reference
The HTC VIVE Ultimate Tracker uses inside-out tracking with onboard wide-FOV cameras and computer vision algorithms to estimate its 6DoF pose. By mapping and localizing within its environment, the tracker determines its position and orientation without external base stations.
When integrated with Xsens technology, this positional data is fused with inertial motion capture from the Xsens system. Xsens provides high-fidelity full-body kinematics from IMU data, while the Ultimate Tracker adds absolute positional reference points within the capture space.
This sensor fusion approach improves global positioning and reduces drift, especially where alignment with environments, objects, or contact surfaces is required. Trackers can be placed on body segments, props, or fixed reference points to define spatial constraints and interaction zones.
