MVN Studio 4.4 introduces on-body recording

Xsens update unshackles mocap, enabling capture in any environment at the touch of a button

Enschede, Netherlands, 7 Apr 2017 – Xsens, the leading innovator in 3D motion tracking technology, has announced the release of MVN Studio 4.4, a new software update that enables unshackled motion capture (mocap) in any environment – all at the touch of a button.

MVN Studio 4.4 and On-Body Recording
MVN Studio is Xsens’ production-proven mo-cap software solution, used in conjunction with Xsens mocap suits to record, monitor and analyse movement.

Using On-Body Recording the data is stored directly to the Body Pack, all without the need for nearby hardware or an on-site power source. Users start capture at the touch of a button, and simply upload the data when they return to a computer

MVN Studio 4.4 and On-Body Recording makes mocap more flexible and accessible than ever, opening up new possibilities for body data recording anywhere, any time.

Hein Beute, Director of Product Marketing at Xsens, comments: “MVN Studio 4.4 opens many new possibilities for inertial mocap. For instance, you could capture a Motocross rider’s movement from the start of a race to the end; or if you’re performing ergonomics on a hands-on profession like lumberjacking, the subject can work deep in the woods without the need for a nearby power source. MVN Studios 4.4 makes mocap more accessible than ever.”

The MVN Remote App Reference Camera
Following the release of the MVN Remote App for mobile in MVN Studio 4.3, the MVN Studio 4.4 update introduces a Reference Camera view to the application.

The MVN Remote App enables users to control recordings and review performances from their iOS/Android smartphones. With the new Reference Camera, users can now capture reference video of a shoot; for instance, recording an actor’s facial expressions during a take.

The video captured using Reference Camera will play back in MVN Studio 4.4, revealing the context of where the motion was recorded, enabling users to validate the capture.

Xsens will be hosting a webinar April 19th at 11am (PST) to present an in-depth view of this release. You can register for the webinar here.
