Xsens introduces Sirius GNSS/INS for reliable positioning in challenging environments

Xsens introduces the Xsens Sirius GNSS/INS and Xsens Sirius RTK GNSS/INS, next-generation modules designed to deliver reliable positioning and orientation in demanding GNSS conditions.

Tested according to MIL-STD-202, Xsens Sirius (RTK) GNSS/INS is designed to withstand shock, vibration, and environmental stress in high-dynamic and harsh operating conditions.

Positioning performance can drop when applications move beyond ideal GNSS conditions. Signal obstruction, multipath effects, and dynamic motion can reduce accuracy, availability, and heading reliability.

The Xsens Sirius (RTK) GNSS/INS builds on Xsens 25+ years of experience in advanced sensor fusion, with a new GNSS architecture and updated algorithms. These improvements focus on robustness, availability, and consistent performance in applications where positioning data is critical.

Next-generation GNSS performance

Xsens Sirius integrates a quad-band GNSS receiver that increases satellite visibility and reduces sensitivity to multipath effects.

This enables:

  • More stable positioning
  • Improved heading estimation
  • Better performance in partially obstructed environments

Support for modern high-precision GNSS services, including PointPerfect and Galileo High Accuracy Service (HAS), enables centimeter- to decimeter-level positioning without relying solely on traditional RTK infrastructure.

Improved RTK performance and system stability

The Xsens Sirius RTK GNSS/INS improves RTK availability and reliability compared to previous-generation Xsens GNSS/INS solutions.

Key improvements include:

  • Faster convergence times
  • Increased RTK fix reliability
  • Improved re-acquisition after signal loss

Updated sensor fusion algorithms further improve the integration of GNSS and inertial data, resulting in:

  • More stable orientation
  • Reduced drift during GNSS outages
  • Continuous positioning output

Together, these improvements help maintain navigation performance when GNSS conditions become challenging.

Designed for deployment in real applications

This ruggedized design supports reliable operation in high-dynamic and harsh operating conditions, where shock, vibration, and environmental stress can affect sensor performance.

To simplify integration, Xsens Sirius introduces additional interfaces and outputs:

  • CAN and CAN-FD for industrial and automotive systems
  • RS422 for robust long-distance communication
  • Uncertainty output for data quality assessment

Support for modern GNSS signals also ensures compatibility with next-generation satellite systems and long-term deployment requirements.

Applications and availability

Xsens Sirius GNSS/INS and Xsens Sirius RTK GNSS/INS are designed for applications that depend on reliable positioning, including robotics, autonomous systems, marine operations, and surveying.
