Xsens MTi-G in high-performance surfboard

A cooperation between Tecnalia and Pukas, integrating the Xsens MTi-G with strain gauges built into a high performance surfboard has enabled real-time monitoring of the movement of surfboards while surfers are actually surfing in the sea.

The MTi-G was incorporated to record data about the surfboard accelerations, speed and movements. The data can be visualized and recorded in real-time, as you can see in the movie.

The aim of the project is to have information about "what's going on" in a high-performance surfboard during real usage, out on the open waves. This information will help surfboard manufacturers to improve the quality of the surfboards and the surfing community to improve their technique.
