Today, December 16th 2009, Xsens shipped the first MVN BIOMECH system!
MVN BIOMECH is a ambulatory human measurement system tailored to the needs of biomechanics researchers. Xsens originally developed the MVN system mainly for 3D animation and motion capture in the game and entertainment industries three years ago. The biomechanics market showed growing interest in the MVN system and requested specific features to add to the unique system. Included in the new release Xsens also launches for the first time new ground breaking algorithms that solve fundamental issues with magnetic disturbances until now hampering adoption of inertial based motion analysis systems for some challenging applications.
Specifically, the new software shipping with MVN BIOMECH allows access to all levels of data sources within the inertial sensor system and the biomechanical models used, including joint angles, angular velocities, acceleration data, velocity and position, all available in configurable 2D graphics. Additionally, the new software supports configurable 3D viewports and support for synchronized video capture. To enable easy access to the rich data produced by the MVN system, new exporters have been developed for industry standard C3D as well as a new MVNX format, an open XML based file format, that is capable of holding all kinematic and modeling data and at the same time being accessible by all software supporting the open XML standard, including MATLAB, Excel and other popular analysis programs. After many hours of hard work, developing and testing, Xsens’ team is proud to ship our first batch of MVN BIOMECH systems to the waiting customers.
