MTw Development Kit

The MTw™ is a highly accurate, completely wireless, small and lightweight 3D motion tracker. It provides drift-free 3D orientation, acceleration, angular velocity, earth-magnetic field as well as static pressure. A wireless body area network of up to 32 MTw’s is possible, while maintaining time-synchronisation better than 10 µs between each MTw.

MTw Development Kit

The MTw™ is a small, highly accurate wireless inertial 3D motion tracker.

The MTw sets a new standard for ambulatory 3D kinematic measurement systems - building on Xsens’ 10 years of leadership in inertial sensor technology. The MTw uses the unique Awinda™ radio protocol developed by Xsens. The Awinda protocol implements a very accurate (≤ 10 µs difference) time synchronization between multiple MTw’s in a wireless body-area network. In fact, the time synchronization is so accurate that it is comparable to the wired measurement systems from Xsens.

The Awinda Station is the link between up to 32 MTw’s (wireless) and the PC (USB). The Awinda Station has multiple hardware connections for synchronization with third party devices, using TTL levels 0-3.3V. Additionally, it charges up to 6 MTw’s simultaneously.

Specially designed click-in full body straps, improves the efficiency of preparation, reducing the time needed for subject setup.

The MTw Development Kit, incorporating multiple MTw’s, the Awinda Station, MT software and click-in body straps, is ideal for measuring motion and orientation of the human body - anywhere.

The SDK provides access to all levels of data (raw data, calibrated sensor data, 3D orientation estimates) and enables application developers to create their own specialized environments for visualizing, recording and processing MTw data. To facilitate this process, example code is provided for:

  • MATLAB®
  • LabVIEW®
  • Excel®1
  • C/C++/C#

The MTw SDK is Windows 7 compatible and now supported by Linux (beta).

Demonstrator software packages:

  • Shoulder Monitor; based on ISEO™ protocol
  • Gait Monitor; based on OUTWALK™ protocol

Within 15 minutes the demonstrators provide a full 3D kinematic analysis. Scientifically validated motion analysis protocols are implemented.

Demonstrator Software

The demonstrator software is created using the Xsens MTw Software Development Kit and works even on a tablet with touchscreen technology. An easy-to-follow wizard and video tutorials will guide the user in:
